Back From Sturgis/New Website Launching Soon

We're back from shooting in Sturgis after 2 weeks of some of the weirdest weather I have ever seen out there. We experienced every kind of weather you can name - except snow, although one morning is certainly was cold enough to snow. We left with several thousand dollars damage to one of our cars due to an unbelievable hail storm that occurred the last Friday night of the rally. Baseball size hail and lots of rain. The car goes in today for an estimate that I'm sure will top $6000 - $7000. We were contracted by a new bar in Sturgis called Monkey Rock to take pictures for them during the rally so that kept us busy most of the time. We did manage to get some pics of the rally which will be posted later in the "Featured Galleries" section of our new upcoming website. The picture on this post is from a commercial shoot we did while we were out there. We teamed up with a couple of fantastic body painters who painted a model to match the bike. Check out our new website (when launched) to see pics from this shoot. In several photos, the model blends perfectly with the bike and is nearly undetectable.

We'll be launching a new website in a few weeks. We try to update our website once a year to keep things fresh. The new site won't be drastically different from our old one but will give better visibility to our bike builders galleries. Last year we began offering a free gallery to our commercial clients that features various pics from shoots of their products (mostly custom bikes). We get a lot of traffic on our site so this helps our clients get more exposure.

Shooters Images Teams Up With Toyota and H.O.G. Magazine

We're proud to announce that Toyota has chosen us to photograph the flat track races at the Springfield Mile over Labor Day weekend. Toyota is a recent sponsor of these races, often referred to as the "Grand Daddy" of all flat track races. Representatives from Toyota saw some of our work from the Memorial Day races at the "Mile" and contacted us about covering this event for them. We are honored that they chose us to photograph the event for them and look forward to shooting this event again. Thanks to Doc Underwood of HogGaiters and Mylas Copeland of Green Toyota for their help and support.

We are also happy to announce that H.O.G. Magazine is continuing to use our photos for their new publication. Watch for the next issue for several of our images from the Springfield MIle Flat Track races and also the National HOG Rally in Oklahoma City. We look forward to our continued work with them.

Shooters Launches New Fine Art Gallery!

Check it out!  We've decided to add a new gallery dedicated to another aspect of motorcycles.  For now, it's called "Competition" and will contain pics of racing, hill climbs, and related activities.  We stay pretty busy keeping up with the regular galleries on our site but our recent shoot for H.O.G. magazine at the AMA flat track races in Springfield, Il resulted in lots of great shots that we thought deserved their own gallery.

Look for a story in an upcoming H.O.G. Magazine written by a veteran of the racing scene (and great guy) Beau Allen Pacheco.  Beau is dedicated to raising our awareness and interest in flat track racing and we hope our new gallery helps introduce some new people to this great sport.  If you haven't experienced flat track racing, you owe it to yourself to see what it's all about.

We'll be covering a few more of these events over the summer (including the flat track races at Sturgis) so we'll slowly add to the gallery.  If you are a racing fan, we hope you enjoy our new addition.  If you're not yet a fan, check out our gallery and see what you're missing.

Photo of the Day

Over the last few years we have gotten to know many of the police working the Sturgis rally.  But, they still make sure we behave ourselves.  Here, one of the Sturgis cops was about to cuff Deb and I was able catch the moment!

Photo of the Day

Another chopper from Big Tony's Chopp Shop.  Taken from a photo shoot done on 3/15/09.  This bike will be a cover feature in American Cycle Magazine.  This bike is slightly smaller than Big Tony's other builds and is nicely suited for a woman (who now owns it).

Deb and I (Shooters Images) try to capture true representations of the biker culture and lifestyle.  This picture was taken at a bike rally in North Dakota and says it all about the biker attitude.

Another Sturgis photo.  Taken of some guys in One Eyed Jacks.  I think they thought they were posing for a beer commercial.

Photo of the Day

Another one of my favorite images by Deb taken at the Little Sturgis Rally in Sturgis Ky.  It's a great place to people watch.  We call this one "The Family Reunion."

Photo of the Day

We're going to be posting a Photo of the Week to showcase some of our favorite shots, both current and past.  We'll be shooting the Ride Janie Ride event again this year and since it's coming up soon, I thought I'd start with a shot from last years ride.

This photo was taken by Deb during the ride.  It's a great wide angle shot of a nice chopper.  The wide angle lens and low perspective accentuates the length of the bike.  One of my favorite shots.

Video - Easyriders Bike Show 2009 Louisville, Ky

Photo and video slideshow of the Easyriders V-Twin Bike Show in Louisville last weekend (Jan 31st).  Lots of people and some great looking bikes.  We'll eventually have the photography on our event site so you can see all the bikes.  Apparently, several of the bike show participants and vendors didn't make it to the show because of the big ice storm in that part of the country.

New Biker Magazine Features Shooters Images Photography

A new biker magazine is debuting this spring called Gasoline Magazine.  Check out their website and watch for the magazine.  It will be featuring lots of our photography (see examples) as well as stories related to motorcycling and the biker culture.

2009 World of Wheels Video

Check out some bike shots from the 2009 World of Wheels bike show in Chicago.  For the camera geeks, most of this was done with the new Canon 5d mk ii and a 200 f2 lens.

New Promo Video

We just finished editing a new promo video for 2009.  With the addition of Final Cut Studio 2 (a suite of production software), we're able to improve our DVD slideshows and now add video to the mix.  In addition, a new DSLR that also shoots video has been added to our bag and allows us to shoot not just video but HD video.   We certainly will be incorporating that into our business.  So, look for video posted on our website in the upcoming months.  In the meantime, check out our new promo DVD.  If anyone would like a complimentary copy, please contact us and we will send one free of charge.

New Book Preview

Here's the cover for the new book we're working on.  It should be finished in a week or so and will then go in for printing.  Not sure of the price yet for the large 11 x 13 hardcover version.  We will also be offering a smaller, softcover edition that will be a little cheaper.

The book contains approximately 200 of some of our best and most popular gallery prints of photos from the Sturgis rally.  This edition, unlike the last one, contains narrative text along with the pictures.  Plus, there's an intro by fellow biker photographer Greg Zook.  The entire book is arranged in sections.  If you are on our email list, you will get a notice when the book is ready for sale.

If you've been to the rally, we think you'll agree that the book is an excellent representation of the rally.  If you haven't been, you'll want to get this book to what you've been missing.

If you are interested in joining our email list, shoot us an email and we'll add you to the list.  don@shootersimages.com to send us an email.
